The Square
There are so many quality documentaries being made these days and I came across ‘The Square’ last week when browsing Netflix. The film covers the ongoing rollercoaster that is The Egyptian Revolution. Through the news, we have only got a glimpse of the bloodiest battle, an election, or a million man march. At the beginning of July 2013, Egypt witnessed the second president deposed within the space of three years.
The film follows the inspirational story of young people claiming their rights, struggling through multiple forces, in the fight to create a society of conscience. One thing that struck me was the feeling that a secular society was viewed, by the majority of the young people featured, to be crucial for the future of the country. With the latest news of the death penalty verdicts for 683 people in a mass trial, it’s clear that Egypt is in a state of upheaval that could go on for many years.
Three Flavours Cornetto
Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, The Lord of the Rings. They’re excellent trilogies of my generation and are joined by The Cornetto Trilogy which encompasses Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End. Directed by Edgar Wright and starring Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and an array of brilliant character actors, the video above provides a master cut of the 3 movies. Note: there be spoilers.
It’s gotta be hard to do PR for Dublin Bus but I believe they’ve struck the right note with their ‘Network Noel’ campaign. As they say themselves: “Noel wants to help customers get to know their bus service better and to make the most of Dublin Bus’ 28 high-frequency core routes. A sociable Dub originally from Kimmage, Noel wants to interact with people”. He’s been doing that across Facebook (5k likes), Instagram and Youtube over the past number of weeks and I’ve embedded my favourite ad above (“and that’s broke”).
