In Good Company

In Good Company I saw In Good Company tonight in Ster Century and have to say I thought it was very good. The acting was excellent and the story was well thought out and unconventional. Dennis Quaid is the successful family man while Topher Grace (from “That 70’s Show”) plays the young, dynamic guy whose life isn’t all its cracked up to be. The addition of Scarlett Johansson was a wise casting move as there is obvious chemistry on screen between the two young actors. I’m not really sure where I’m going with this but I enjoyed it and there are some very funny one-liners.

Tony’s Rating:
8/10

Plot Synopsis: Dan Foreman is headed for a shakeup. He is demoted from head of ad sales for a major magazine when the company he works for is acquired in a corporate takeover. His new boss, Carter Duryea, is half his age–a business school prodigy who preaches corporate synergy. While Dan develops clients through handshake deals and relationships, Carter cross-promotes the magazine with the cell phone division and Krispity Krunch, an indeterminate snack food under the same corporate umbrella. Both men are going through turmoil at home. Dan has two daughters, Alex, age 18, and Jana, age 16, and is shocked when his wife tells him she’s pregnant with a new child. Carter, in the meanwhile, is dumped by his wife of seven months just as he gets his promotion. Dan and Carter’s uneasy friendship is thrown into jeopardy when Carter falls for, and begins an affair with, Dan’s daughter Alex.

Lovely Day

The title of the post is prompted by two things:

  1. I’ve been listening to “Twista – Sunshine” which uses a sample from the song “Lovely Day.”
  2. I had two things happen to me today which have turned it into a lovely day from a pretty mundane one. I had my contract extended in work for 6 months plus I got the increase in salary I wanted. 🙂 I also got a text from O2 explaining that I’ve won a €200 holiday voucher. 😀

Hopefully the rest of the day is just as good. 😉

WP-imp 1.5

Ok so first off you may have noticied some changes to the site. Gone is the anthonymcg.com/blog you knew of old and in with the fresh-faced anthonymcg.com powered by WordPress 1.5 The upgrade process went pretty smoothly (I had been running a nightly build from the weekend) aside from a small issue with a template that was easily fixed. Since WordPress 1.5 introduces the concept of “pages” I realised it could replace all the functionality of my existing site plus give me power over themes and plugins. It was too good an opportunity to miss. 🙂 I’ll be porting over the old sites content over the coming days and weeks. Hopefully I’ll be able to introduce some changes to the template too. For now, please check out my Flickr Gallery which will be the new home for all my photos.

Edit: It’s official, WordPress 1.5 is hitting the streets. In those low-lows. 🙂

Thunderbirds Are Go

Well here it is, I finally have broadband. 😀 It’s taken the best part of 5 months but I have it setup and ticking along nicely. You may remember I ordered Esat’s broadband package instead of Eircom’s due to double the download cap and the fact that I’m not keen on Eircom anyway. 😉 There were numerous hold ups on the order due to a number of things but the line was due to be enabled last Friday and I picked up the modem from Elaine (friend from college who works in Esat) on Thursday. I tried to set it up that night but had no joy as it kept connecting and then cutting out. I’m convinced it was the service though as it’s working fine now and I haven’t changed the config.

Unfortunately, a second modem was dispatched to my office though so that arrived yesterday. I’ll need to send it back on Monday but I’m not too concerned now that I finally have at least one. 🙂 When I got it going last night after football, the first thing I had to do was update AVG Antivirus. It had been moaning about a crucial version upgrade but downloading it on 56k would have been a joke. As soon as that downloaded, I updated the virus definitions and did a scan. Sure enough it found two trojans in the Windows directory. I had known about their presence for a while but AVG ripped them out thankfully enough. Happy days. 😎
