FridayQ: Foreign

Can’t believe it’s been a week since my last post. Anyhow, onto the FridayQ:

What’s your native language? Do you speak any foreign languages? If so, how did you come to learn them? My native language is English. I used to be able to speak a small bit of Gaeilge (Irish) and French when I was in school but have since completely forgotten most of what I knew.

What’s your native country? Have you visited any foreign countries? If so, which ones? I’m born and bred Irish but I have visited Scotland, Wales, Spain & Portugal. I’ll be adding the Czech Republic to that list in a little over a month. 🙂

Are there any foreign foods, books, movies, or other items that you are particularly fond of? Name some of your favorites. Hmmm….I quite like Italian food. I don’t read much so books are out of the equation. On films I’ve got interested in Chinese martial arts films of late, stuff like Hero and The House of Flying Daggers.

FQ NATIVE: If you had to trade your nationality for that of any foreign country, which would you choose and why? Probably Denmark. I met a group of Danes which came over to visit our city council recently and they were very nice people. Reminded me of the Irish in terms of attitude and sense of humour.

FridayQ: Romance

Dave started this over at FridayQ so I’ve decided to join in.

What music puts you in the mood for romance? Emmm…..probably stuff like Frank Sinatra, Snoop Dogg, JT, or the old reliables like Barry White or Lionel Richie.

Where is the perfect place for romancing someone? I’d have to say anywhere with a beach. I was in Spain last year in a place called Tossa de Mar, north of Barcelona. It had the greatest beach with a castle overlooking a cove. The castle was floodlit at night and it was just a very romantic place.

What kind of foods get you feeling romantic? Strawberries or Lasagna. No idea why.

FQ LOVER: How would somebody go about winning your heart? Be honest, open, sincere, happy, thoughtful and have a kick ass sense of humour. 😉

Feelin’…….Crap

Haven’t been well at all this week. 🙁 Have had a cold circulating me for the past few weeks and it eventually arrived on Monday evening. Was off work since Tuesday and only went in today to get a few bits done and left early. Starting to get cabin fever here though so I’m hoping to get over to Paddy’s place tomorrow for a day getting reaquainted with the Star Wars saga. We’ve our tickets booked for Thursday evening at 7 so we should be fully up to date by then. 😉

When I got into work there were two packages I had ordered from the States. They’re both books from SitePoint, one being the Search Engine Marketing Kit and the other, Build Your Own ASP.NET Website Using C# & VB.NET. I bought them for work as I thought we needed to get up to speed on how to improve our positioning in Google plus our new CMS will be built in VB.NET. Will post reviews when I’ve read the guts of them.

Have also been waiting on a couple of things in the mail.

So here’s to a weekend of shaking off this cold. *SNEEZES*

The Site Web

.1 Calibre

I upgraded the site this morning to WordPress 1.5.1. There have been some code fixes and such along with general tidying etc and it seems to be working fine so far. I had to go slower than I would have due to the fact that I had a few files in the wp-admin directory which are to do with a few of the plugins I run. Kitten’s Spaminator was the only fatality of the upgrade as it choked when someone tried to comment. Since she’s no longer updating or supporting it, I’ve moved to SpamKarma2 which looks very comprehensive. I’ve suffered two comment spam attacks in the past week so hopefully SpamKarma will be just as good as Spaminator was at handling the load.

Birthday Bash

Well last night I had my birthday bash in town at the Long Stone pub just off Pearse Street. Lots of people turned up so I was very impressed and had a fantastic night. After we left the Long Stone we went to Wexford Street where the plan was to hit Whelans but we got the “regulars only” line from the bouncers so we scooted in the Palace instead. It was free in and the place was kicking so we spent the next two hours dancing. I have to say, the DJ played the best set I’ve heard in about a year and a half. 🙂 Every song was well timed and kept the dancefloor packed to capacity.

The NiteLink home (bus home) was one of the funniest bus journeys I’ve ever had. One guy sitting across from us was singing mad tunes all the way to Chapelizoid where he got off. You haven’t lived until you’ve heard the whole upper deck of a bus sing “I ain’t afraid of no ghost”. 😆 Today being my actual birthday, I’m taking it easy and chilling out. I got a guitar from my parents and “The House of Flying Daggers” DVD off my brother.

UPDATE: Pics have been posted in the gallery.
