Driver Theory Test

Well today I passed my Driver Theory Test. What is it? Basically a test which ensures you’re not a complete dumbass when it comes to road procedure and signage. I mean you’d have to be really stupid to get some of those questions wrong. One of them reads:

Q. Should you allow children to stand with their heads up through an open sun-roof?
A. (a) Yes at speeds below 50 kilometres per hour.
(b) Yes, provided they wear eye protection.
(c) No.

If someone gets that wrong they should be banned from driving for life. Who would think it’s OK if you equip the kid with goggles? 😆

Fecking rain

Today was officially one of the worst this year weatherwise(according to my painting of how my commute went). When I left work it was pretty windy but when I got to the bus stop it just started plunging down and my clothes were ringing went by the time I got on the bus. Then the journey took 2 hours instead of the usual 1 hour at rush hour. 👿 Bugger.

Anyhow, had to cancel the planned training session for tonight. It wasn’t worth bringing the lads out in weather like that, especially since the pitches have been closed so much over the past while. We’ve played one game this season which was a 0-6 loss to Swords but myself and Jimmy have a new trainer in with them who really knows his stuff. Hopefully they’ll be in better shape when it comes to the next game.

Was delighted with yesterdays result in the Man United (1) vs Chelsea (0) game. True that Fletcher probably didn’t intend to put it in the back of the net but they all count. I can’t believe Jose Mourinho saying that Chelsea were the better team. Then how come they lost Jose? The man’s a muppet.

Elizabethtown

Elizabethtown I’ve been looking forward to this one for a while cos I’m a big fan of Cameron Crowe’s films. Both Jerry Maguire and Almost Famous are among my favourite films and I tend to expect quite a lot of this director. I won’t mention the fiasco that was Vanilla Sky. 🙂 This film follows Drew Baylor, a twenty-something shoe designer from Oregan who’s father passes away suddenly and he is pulled into the world his father once inhabited back in his home state of Kentucky. While on the way to Elizabethtown he meets Claire Colburn who is a quirky individual set on getting to know him and his story.

Crowe’s films have always had a keen eye for character and that’s especially true here. He takes the time to explain character motivations and brings in a wide variety of actors who all provide strong performances. Orlando Bloom is very good as Drew and I bought into the idea that his head was wrecked between his job, family and trying to come to terms with his father’s extended family. Kirsten Dunst is also solid as Clare and is definitely the quirkiest role I’ve ever seen her perform. Overall though there were certain things about the film which didn’t sit with me 100%. It’s very hard to describe. 😕 Anyhow, it’s a very good film and one I’d recommend. I’m also thinking it’ll be better suited to DVD. 🙂

Tony’s Verdict: 7/10

Laptops for Africa

Tonight I’m preparing 3 laptops that my uncle is taking to Africa on part of his trip with the Niall Mellon Township Challenge. Basically builders and associated craftsmen get sponsorship together and travel to townships in South Africa to build houses for the people there. My uncle normally brings anything he can source so this time he decided it would be laptops. He has secured 5 in all, 3 of which I have tonight and the other 2 I’ll work on tomorrow. The laptops will go to a school and also a football club so they can manage teams etc.
