Aslan

Went to see Aslan in the Point Theatre last night. It’s becoming somewhat of a ritual at this stage as we’ve gone the past 3/4 years in a row. 🙂 They are always great live and really get the crowd going. Luckily we were able to get into the pit area as a friend we were with had an uncle working security for it. They sang a few of the older tunes that I wouldn’t have been really familiar with but also did a lot of the classics.

WordPress 2

For those who don’t know, WordPress 2 was released last night. It contains a lot of changes on the backend and includes a few AJAX type features which are nice. You won’t notice any difference to the site at the moment but I will be tweaking the stylesheet over the next few days to show more info (like latest comments etc). The switch took the past couple of hours and everything seems to be working grand. I wanted to ensure that nothing would break so I’ve updated all the plugins I use to the latest versions. If you notice anything strange then please leave a comment. Finally, just a nod to the guys at WordPress for a polished release and a fantastic bit of software. 🙂

That’s what I plan to do over the Christmas holidays. A small sample:

  • Starting to learn guitar: Have been putting that off for 6 months.
  • Watch the mountain of DVDs I bought. Still suprised at how many I seem to have amassed.
  • Get Windows reinstalled on the PC and finally see if I can get the front USB ports working. 🙂

Of course, over the holidays I’ll be spending lots of time with friends and family. Included in that will be the wedding of my cousin and an Aslan gig in the Point. I’m chuffed with the time off as, even though I don’t have the worst job in the world, the New Year is set to be quite tough for our project. The new site is due by March and there’s tons of content and system specification to be done in the interim. More updates on that as they occur.

DSC00520 I’ve also been falling behind with my blog reading. Most of the time is spent catching up on the bigger blogs such as Boing Boing, Lifehacker and Irish Blogs. I’m beginning to wonder if I should drop a couple of them though as they eat time and having 200 odd posts from one “blog” is a bit ridiculous.

It looks like WordPress 2.0 has been delayed slightly. It was due for release yesterday but the lead devs decided to delay it until the 26th to allow people to enjoy Christmas. Considering it’s a voluntary project, I’m suprised the guys are even hitting that timeline. Fair play though as they are highly committed and it looks like an excellent update. I was going to install the release candidate but I reckon I may hang on. The majority of my plugins work with it so upgrading will hopefully go smoothly.

Finally, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all who read this.

King Kong

King Kong Thumbs Up Wow. Just wow. Unless you’ve been hiding in a cave for the past six months then you can’t have failed to see the humdrum and buzz generated towards Peter Jackson’s latest epic. I personally, loved the Lord of Rings movies and was looking forward to it. To do a film like this after coming out of the Rings saga is a testament to how ballsy a filmmaker he is. The following will not contain any major spoilers so feel free to read on if you want my take on the movie (I’ve seen it twice :)).

Weird Habits meme

Janine finally remembered to tag me to do a meme. 😛 First the rules:

The first player of this game starts with the topic “five weird habits of yourself, and people who get tagged need to write an entry about their five weird habits as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose the next five people to be tagged and link to their web journals.

Now onto my list of weird and not-so wonderful habits.

  1. I never trust myself that I have the right amount when paying for anything in change. I need to count it over and over.
  2. I’m always checking that I locked the back door when going to bed at night. This one and the one above are probably mild OCD or something.
  3. Whenever I go into Subway I always get a foot long turkey and ham sandwich, toasted, with lettuce and tomato. No dressing either.
  4. Sometimes when I’m sitting down I tend to unconsciously tap my foot. It drives everyone mad when they notice it.
  5. I don’t know if its a weird habit but I get distracted really easily. Just now I wandered off and checked my Fantasy Premier League score and searched for Peter Jackson’s King Kong production diaries. Only then did I realise I still had to finish this entry. 🙄

Aha and now the finale where I pick 5 other bloggers to do the same:
