Perspective

Sunday night was an experience as both of my hard drives had their master boot record and boot partitions corrupted. I had been trying to make a ghost image of Windows XP but the process messed up and nuked the drives. I’m still able to see the contents of the partitions so I can recover the data. It’ll just be a little while before I get it back to normal working order. Was pretty stressed about it but then….

Got bad news yesterday in work. A colleague of mine whom I’ve worked with for two years died over the weekend. He was well respected and had become a good friend over the past few weeks in work. Rest in peace Derek. You lived your days instead of counting the years.

Glyder

We need... Went to see Glyder last night with Trev and John. The gig was on in Eamonn Doran’s in Temple Bar and the lads really put on a great show. It’s been a while since I was at a gig like that and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Trev’s a big fan of theirs as his mate Barry/Bat plays guitar for them. They also covered the legendary Rory Gallagher’s “Shadow Play”. They’ve got a list of upcoming gigs available so if you like quality rock music then I’d recommend them heartily.

Walk the Line

Walk the Line Only catching up on this review now so apologies for the delay. Firstly I’ll say that I’m not crazy about Johnny Cash’s music. I would have heard a couple of his songs before but that would have been it. The film tracks the first half of Cash’s life and Jaoquin Phoenix turns in a masterful display of character nuance. He really nails the part and paints a picture of a guy who could swing from cruel to caring in a heartbeat. The fact that the director insisted on his actors singing each and every tune contributes to the film enormously. I can’t have imagined getting into the film as much if they had been lip-syncing.

Reese Witherspoon as June Carter is also superb and the chemistry between the two leads is palpable. She exudes confidence and seems to be the one person who would stand up to Cash. Her performance hints at a stolen childhood and broken marriages that all take place off screen. When all is considered though the structure of the film is elevated by the actors and turns an average bio-pic into a very good one.

Tony’s Verdict: 8/10

Digital Media Awards 2006

Digital Media Awards Last Wednesday the crowd from work attended the Digital Media Awards 2006. Our website, dublin.ie, had been nominated in the “Best Information Site” category so we went along to the ceremony in the Burlington. We didn’t win our category, we didn’t really expect to :), but had a great night and met some interesting people including an Oscar nominated producer.
