€15,000 for what exactly?

Astounded by a news story today that a telephonist with Aer Rianta who claimed she suffered post-traumatic stress after answering a hoax bomb warning. She got €15,000. Why?! She claimed the company were negligent and in breach of their duty to her. How exactly?

I take calls from the public to do with my job. If one of them happens to be a bomb threat do I get to sue my employer for stress?! Cases like this would make me despair. The judge should have thrown the case out. When I worked in Conduit on a telephony job we were given instructions on how to deal with a bomb threat. Does that mean I would have been able to deal with it? Probably not, I still would have been freaked out. Would I sue my employer as a result? Definitely not. The claim culture is gaining ground.

Signatures and Blackouts

Kev sells his soul Pictured left is Kev signing us in for another “season” of football on Friday nights. Great to have it back as the prospect of no footie every week is depressing. Played alright on Friday but need to get running a bit more. Preliminary plan to get up at 6am and have a run a couple of mornings a week. Let’s see how that pans out. God knows I need it.

On Saturday, Liverpool beat Chelsea in the FA Cup Semi-Final. I was chuffed because I have tons of vitriol for Jose Mourinho. Alas, he got one in the face for free. Happy days. Dar came out to watch the game so we went down for a few beers with the usual suspects that evening. A quick stop in the Ball Alley and then on to Courtneys. After being in the place for ten minutes I noticied a fireman come in and go upstairs. Thought it was a tad strange and sure enough a couple of minutes later the electricity failed. Rambled outside to find the fire brigade and the ESB trying to fix a connection. So we went back to the Ball Alley. 🙂

Damien Mulley stole my brain

That’s how I’m feeling at the moment. The guy just talks consistent sense when it comes to the internet. His latest post outlines why Tom Raftery doesn’t need a CV and he’s right. If you look at the things that Tom has done with his blog and podleaders.com then you know what he’s about and the level of experience he has. Of course Damien makes the point better so go read his post. 🙂

UPDATE: The Boston Globe have run a good article on the same topic.
