The last three days have seen summer arrive in Ireland…..finally. I didn’t get to see much of it on Thursday though. As I’ve mentioned before, we have been moving the website I work for. As part of the site we have a free email system where anyone can sign up. As you can imagine, moving a system like that from one location to another can be quite a job and we realised on Wednesday evening that it couldn’t be done across the net and we’d need to do it in person.
So, Thursday lunchtime we travelled out to our existing servers to copy all the data on to a USB drive. Unfortunately that took six and a half hours! Then we proceeded to get some food at Eddie Rockets (cheers, Paul) and head for the new datacentre which is about ten minutes drive from my house. Things were much faster transferring onto the new servers and despite a few hitches we had the system up and running again by about 2.45am. Big kudos to Paul @ Blacknight who did all the tough work and stuck with it. I’m happy that we’ll be able to offer a faster service and have more software support than we had before.
Anyway, I’m off to a BBQ so whatever you’re doing with your weekend, enjoy it.
